HHS BAND MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

I hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer.  Considering our fall show will be demanding both physically and mentally, you’ll need to have your “batteries” recharged and ready to go for band camp. 

Assignments

**Please look at the scales link above.  Practice and memorize these scales in preparation of band camp and of the upcoming school year.  Not only will you play them everyday in our warm up for band camp, you will play them for a grade once you are “settled in” this new school year.

You need to have your music memorized for band camp.  Not only does this effect reasons listed later in this letter, but your level of memorization will directly affect your grade this fall.

Band Camp

Please start getting used to the heat of band camp.  Take walks during the hottest times of the day.  If you get hot, drink water and sit down in the shade, not inside in the AC.  Remember, the heat shows you how out of shape you really are.

Check out the Band Camp link above.  This link contains information regarding band camp dates and necessary equipment.  Please begin you preparations now for band camp.  Rookies- follow the checklist to the letter.

The band will receive several new stand tunes for band camp.  Please come to band camp with your show music memorized.  This will allow us more time to learn new stand tunes for Friday night football games.

This is a reminder that food and drinks will not be allowed in the dorms during our week at Howell’s meal.  This rule is different from other camps.  Please due your part to follow the rules of our host.

Old News

This is a reminder that the Carolina Crown drum and bugle corps will stay at HHS on July 5^th and 6^th. Please drop by if you get a chance and watch them rehearse.

New Information

In case you haven’t heard, the HHS band will have five new exchange students in the band this fall.  Let’s all welcome them into our band family.

WVU has accepted our invitation to perform at the TOB Chapter 8 Championships.  Although we will have extensive advertising to promote this event, please help us “spread the word.”

Band Booster News

The next Booster meeting will be on Tuesday July 18, 2006.  This is a mandatory meeting for ALL band members.  A parent or legal guardian is required to attend.  This is for insurance and medical forms notarization purposes.
